Derek is a fish with many questions. Why is the universe round? Where do bubbles come from? Why does food rain down from above? But the question Derek asks himself more than any other is: 'Why am I alone?'
I love books that have a feeling of sweet sadness, beautiful yearning, and a happy ending.
If you do too, then meet Derek!
His story is so adorable. As he explores his tiny universe and experiments with ways to communicate, your heart will ache for him. But without giving away the ending, you can be sure he ends up surrounded by love.
Kids will enjoy the bright colours and humour, including the obligatory poop joke!
And the story conveys important messages about curiousity and asking the big questions, as well as the bravery it can take to make new friends. (Plus a little jab about humans being oblivious when they're focused on their phones!)
This is a super cute, heartwarming book that is now firmly in my favourite picture books list.
I bet if you read it you won't be able to resist Derek’s charms either.
